Hundreds of Volunteers Commit to Preserving Mount Royal’s Natural Environment

The season of community environmental actions with Les amis de la montagne has just come to a close on Mount Royal. Between May and October, nearly 1,500 volunteers got involved on the mountain to preserve its natural habitats and contribute to the preservation of its biodiversity.
This year, the support all of these citizens dedicated to protecting the environment allowed us to plant more than 1,900 native trees and shrubs of 35 different species in addition to eliminating invasive exotic plant species on over 4 hectares of the Mount Royal territory. Les amis de la montagne wishes to thank all the volunteers who took part in our Saturday morning general public activities during the summer and fall, as well as the companies that gathered their employees on the mountain to lend a helping hand. All these volunteer hours demonstrate once again the Montréal community’s love for Mount Royal!
Companies Go Green on the Mountain
The Environmental Stewardship Program developed by Les amis de la montagne also offers a corporate component so that Montréal companies can take concrete steps to help the environment. As part of Montréal's 375th anniversary and TD Tree Days, the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation invited 375 employees and community members to plant trees on Mount Royal this past October. Besides being festive, this great event helped make the mountain even greener!

Would you like to get involved during the cold months too? Les amis de la montagne invites you to become a volunteer observer in Mount Royal Park by taking part in the FeederWatch project, a North American survey of bird populations at feeders. What better way to enjoy winter, observe beautiful birds and contribute to science!
Training is required to participate in this project and will take place on November 17 or 18. Contact us to register at 514 843-8240, ext. 250 or at benevoles@lemontroyal.qc.ca.
