Our Volunteer of the Year!

Les amis de la montagne benefits from the help of hundreds of dedicated volunteers involved in projects protecting and enhancing Mount Royal. Every year, Les amis, in collaboration with Manulife, salutes this effort by recognizing one person’s outstanding service.
In Nathalie’s own words, “Since we started volunteering with Les amis de la montagne, students have discovered, or rediscovered, the beautiful ‘garden’ that is virtually in our backyard! They enjoy being out in nature, but are especially impressed by the many adult volunteers who support the mountain. Kids love feeling connected to a strong and meaningful community.”
Asked why volunteering plays such an important role in her life, Nathalie’s answer is simple: “Volunteering is the modern way to live in a community, whether it be in the city or out in the country. Not only does it allow me to contribute to my environment, but I also meet people who share similar goals and values.”
Nathalie also receives a $1,000 grant from Manulife, which she may donate to a charity of her choice.

Back Nathalie Bossé Wins the Manulife Volunteer Award
This year, the title of Volunteer of the Year goes to Nathalie Bossé, Assistant Head, Curriculum & CLE (Centre for Learning Enrichment), at St. George's School of Montreal, for her remarkable commitment over the last 6 years with Les Amis and positive influence on the children from her school, which promotes student engagement in local and global society projects.Volunteering Gets High Marks
When it comes to helping out on Mount Royal, Nathalie and her team have done their homework! Every year since 2011, she and a dozen young volunteers befriend the mountain in many ways by:- Taking part in Project FeederWatch, our winter-long survey of bird species visiting feeders in the park.
- Welcoming and handing out tuques to participants during the Tuques Bleues benefit event in February. The 2017 edition counted on the help from students Aapo Vuokila, Amelie-Catherine Boucher, Diego Fontaine and Jaime Kfouri.
- Participating in the Mount Royal Clean Up.

Top Honours
Nathalie received her award on February 16 during the 20th edition of the Tuques Bleues Celebration, a night-time snowshoeing adventure benefitting our environmental conservation programmes. On hand to present her with the award was honorary co-president, Robert Tellier, Regional Vice President, Group Retirement Solutions and Group Benefits Québec, Manulife.Nathalie also receives a $1,000 grant from Manulife, which she may donate to a charity of her choice.
