Activities to make the most of summer on Mount Royal

From June to October, Les amis de la montagne invites Montrealers to enjoy a wide range of recreational activities in Mount Royal Park.
Designed to highlight the mountain in all its beauty, summer activities offered by Les amis de la montagne appeal to all ages and tastes, running the gamut from remote controlled sailboat races and guided tours to a photowalk and classical concerts. Take a look at nine suggestions from our summer program!
1. Row across Beaver Lake and race remoted controlled sailboats
This summer, Les amis de la montagne invites you to enjoy the charms of Beaver Lake in a rowboat or with a remote controlled sailboat! New this year: come test your sailing skills during friendly remote controlled sailboat races on Sundays, July 9, August 6 and 20, and September 3. ($)
2. Discover a new kind of happy hour
On specific Thursday evenings throughout the summer, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Les amis offers short guided walks to discover one of the three summits crowning the Mount Royal territory: Westmount, Outremont and Mount Royal Summits. Participants can end the evening with a bite and a drink at the Beaver Lake Pavilion! ($14 per person)
3. Attend a classical music concert at the Mount Royal Chalet
Once a month until October, during the Musical Sundays at the Mount Royal Chalet, music lovers and Mount Royal visitors are invited to attend free concerts to discover the passion and virtuosity of Montréal’s most promising young musicians. After each concert, a guided tour of the Chalet is offered in French or English. Next concert: Sunday, June 11 at 3 p.m. (Free)
4. Enjoy the view from Au Sommet Place Ville Marie Observatory and Mount Royal
Partnering up with Au Sommet Place Ville Marie, Les amis de la montagne invites participants to experience Montréal in a whole new way by joining our one-of-a-kind excursion From One Summit to Another. Throughout this guided tour, participants learn about the city’s history and environment, while getting the chance to visit two of Montréal’s iconic sites. ($22 per person)
5. Take part in a photo competition and win great prizes
Until October 9, 2017, Mount Royal visitors can participate in Les Amis’ photo competition La montagne en images,which aims to capture the richness of Mount Royal through photography. Prizes include a two-night stay at the Montreal Sheraton Centre and two nights in a Hekipia or Huttopia tent in a SÉPAQ park!
6. Take a one-day hike to discover the history of the mountain and the city
To celebrate Montréal’s 375th anniversary, Les amis de la montagne revisit their Three Summits of Mount Royal and From the Mountain to the River walking tours! Offered at various dates during the summer, these treks are a great way to admire the views and learn more about the history of the city and the mountain. ($20 per person)
7. Volunteer some time for the environmental conservation of the mountain
Every Saturday until October 28, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Montrealers ages 12 years and over are invited to help protect Mount Royal’s natural habitats by participating in conservation activities organized by Les amis de la montagne. This is a great way to meet other nature enthusiasts or to get teenagers involved in the environment! (Free)
8. Learn how to take beautiful pictures with a professional
Photography and mountain enthusiasts are invited to join Les amis de la montagne for a photowalk on September 23. Participants hone their technical skills and explore the fauna of the Mount Royal Cemetery and Outremont Summit with wildlife photographer Jean-Guy Morisset.($20 per person)
9. Learn about Mount Royal’s remarkable history on a guided tour
From July 13 to October 22, on Thursdays and Saturdays, this guided tour takes you along the most beautiful paths and must-see sites in Mount Royal Park as you walk from the Kondiaronk Lookout up to the Mount Royal Cross. This is the perfect chance to find out about the history of the mountain and the city, from prehistoric times to today. ($10 per person)
