Cool Ways to Discover Mount Royal in Winter
- February 14, 2019
Whatever the season or the whims of Mother Nature, the mountain is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a quiet break in nature. Whether you’re big or small, here are our suggestions to discover the mountain.
Go Outside and Play
Mount Royal is full of activities and places to play and enjoy nature in all its splendour:
Rather take it easy? Enjoy a leisurely walk along Olmsted Path that twists and turns around the mountain. Designed by the park’s landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, this wide path leads you to Beaver Lake, the snow-laden Glades around Smith House and the Kondiaronk Belvedere and its gorgeous view of downtown Montréal (can you spot the Leonard Cohen mural?). Continue walking to the summit and you will be rewarded with the tranquil beauty of the natural environment. Mr. Olmsted would have approved.

Family Time at the Mount Royal Chalet
Take a break in the magnificent historical building known as the Mount Royal Chalet. Built in the 1930s, it’s the perfect spot to have a snack while admiring the paintings of famous artists such as Marc-Aurèle Fortin and Paul-Émile Borduas on the walls. The exhibition In the Footsteps of our Discoverers – The Remarkable History of Montréal allows you to learn about the site’s heritage, history and architecture, while special activities during March Break keep kids busy!
