First Waste Management Strategy in Montréal Parklands: An Important Gesture for the Protection of Natural Environments

On August 19, the City of Montréal’s executive committee adopted the Montréal 2020-25 Waste Management Master Plan, which includes specific measures for large parks.
 


By adopting this ambitious plan, the executive committee has demonstrated its firm intention to meet ecological transition targets. Les amis de la montagne applauds the City’s responsiveness and ensures their full collaboration in the development and implementation of a specific waste management strategy in Montréal parklands.

Les amis de la montagne also applauds the City’s commitments to:

• Harmonize signage, graphic standards and recycling stations
• Include public events in recycling and awareness efforts
• Lead by example in municipal buildings
• Collaborate with local stakeholders to carry out awareness-raising, information and environmental educational activities

Over the past year, as part of the public consultation process, Les amis de la montagne had introduced a vision for the roll-out of an innovative and effective waste management plan for all Mount Royal parks (Accélérer la collecte des matières résiduelles dans les parcs du mont Royal ​par l’innovation, la collaboration et la sensibilisation). Three main areas of intervention were identified in this plan: governance, equipment and public awareness.
