The City of Montréal and Les amis de la montagne continue to ensure the highest public health measures to help limit the spread of COVID-19, while maintaining safe access to the mountain’s parklands. Mount Royal Park, in addition to our visitor welcome, gift shop and food and beverages services (take-out menu only), remain open and accessible to visitors wishing to enjoy an outing to the mountain. Note that during peak periods, public authorities reserve the right to limit or close access to parking lots next to Beaver Lake and Smith House.

Inauguré en 1893, l’ancien hôpital Royal Victoria est encore aujourd’hui un haut lieu patrimonial de la métropole. Situé sur le flanc sud de la montagne, il est considéré comme un bijou de la couronne institutionnelle du mont Royal, site patrimonial déclaré depuis 2005. En 2015, suivant l’ouverture du centre universitaire de santé McGill (CUSM), la majorité des services sont déplacés vers le nouveau campus Glen à l’ouest du centre-ville, laissant l’ancien centre hospitalier largement vacant. Afin de définir un nouvel avenir pour l’ancien hôpital, le gouvernement du Québec a confié à la Société québécoise des infrastructures (SQI) le mandat de requalifier l’ensemble du site en 2018. Par le biais d’une consultation publique menée par l’Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM), la SQI nous dévoile aujourd’hui son plan directeur.

Les amis de la montagne has produced a synthesis report following the first Community of Practice (CoP) on ecological snow management. The Rencontres des grands propriétaires institutionnels sur la gestion écologique de leur propriété brought together major owners of properties located in the institutional ring around Mount Royal.

Last March, the Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM) held public consultations regarding the update to Université de Montréal and affiliated schools’ (HEC Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal) mountain campus Master Development Plan.To contribute to making this master plan exemplary, Les amis de la montagne submitted a brief containing 17 recommendations touching on conservation of the natural and built heritage and accessibility to the mountain. In their recently released report, OPCM commissioners made 23 recommendations that were influenced by more than ten of the proposals put forward by Les amis.

April 26, 2022, will mark the 200th anniversary of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, whose grand vision for the mountain and passionate words about nature in the heart of the city have inspired citizens, public officials and political leaders to champion his legacy. Mount Royal Park owes its origin to this great man. That is why Les amis is proud to take part in the celebrations organized by Olmsed 200.
